100 A Externally Operated One-, Two- and Three-Phase Tap Changer Switch
General
RTE 100 A externally operated one-, two- and three-phase under-oil tap changer switch family eliminates many of the hazards associated with manual internal tap changing of distribution transformers. Line crews need not be exposed to high voltage conductors and hot transformer fluids. External operation also eliminates the need to dismount and open pole type transformers for voltage adjustment, which exposes the transformer tank interior to contamination.
The tap changer switch is designed for use in distribution transformers filled with transformer oil, R-Temp Fluid or an approved equivalent. Internal stops prevent switching to positions between normal tap settings and a snap action bridge roller ensures positive switch contact.
The switch body, rotor and shaft are made of a high strength, glass-filled thermoplastic material. The operating shaft is sealed against leakage by two high temperature resistant Viton O-Rings.
Handle options include a cap/wrench combination, metal or thermoplastic level handles, or a flexible hookstick pointer handle. A molded white arrow inside the cap wrench handle points to the switch position. It is also keyed one way in/one way out when fully switched to ensure positive switch contact. The threaded cap also protects the switch shaft against contamination.
The compact 2.25 inch lever handle assembly has a lock screw which ensures complete contact engagement. A white lettered index plate which can be used with either the cap wrench or lever handle provides easy readability.
The flexibility hookstick handle minimizes the potential for the handle breakage through mishandling and can easily be hookstick operated after the transformer is de-energized. Security for all lever and flexible hookstick handles can be accomplished with an optional padlocking clip for tamperproofing. |
